As a regular player, I have always treated vehicles as rolling cover, getaway sleds, and occasional weapons. Reading through Update 38.1, I can see the developers taking a hard look at the entire vehicle ecosystem rather than filing down one or two skins. The patch notes describe broad changes to base vehicles, Special Vehicle skins, SMG balance, destructible terrain, Ranked rewards, Observer tools, and a strange new Arcade crossover. The central message is clear: consistency and fairness are being put back into the driver's seat.

🚗 Vehicles and Special Vehicle Skins: Same Skeleton, Different Paint

The team's original goal was purely visual variety with identical driving performance. But as more premium car collaborations arrived, size and shape differences created small tactical advantages or disadvantages. It was like comparing two animals that looked like different species but were supposed to share the same heartbeat. Update 38.1 re-cuts those suits so they share the same skeleton.

Key vehicle changes include:

  • A similar level of window tint applied to front and rear windows of base vehicles, matching Special Vehicle skins.

  • All vehicle windows can now be penetrated by bullets, regardless of skin type.

  • All vehicles now share the same wide, consistent penetrable area at the rear, regardless of design.

  • Driving experience improvements for the affected vehicles and Special Vehicle skins.

The Bugatti Special Vehicle skins were not included because no adjustments were required for this patch. The developers say these standards will apply to future Special Vehicle skins, but balance remains subject to development progress.

📡 Recall System: More Risk, Fewer Late-Game Miracles

The Recall system has been squeezed into a tighter strategic window. The late-game recall used to feel like a trapdoor that kept reopening; now it closes earlier, forcing squads to spend their second chances before the final bell.

Notable changes:

  • Blue Chip Tower registration time now scales with the number of Blue Chips.

  • Information about returning players is provided through system messages and the Match Log.

  • On 8x8 km maps, the Recall flight appears one fewer time and will no longer appear from Phase 6 onwards.

  • Spectator view no longer shows the Recall flight countdown message; remaining time is displayed at the top of the Minimap and bottom right of the World Map.

  • Recall-related system messages now follow the same format as regular system messages.

Recalling multiple teammates at once now carries greater risk, and other teams' recall information creates new strategic opportunities. Late-game recalls are limited so the feature mainly serves as recovery for players eliminated early.

🔫 SMG and Panzerfaust: Tightening the Hip-Fire Hose

SMGs have been on a steady rise, and the developers want to keep their close-range identity while trimming their over-the-shoulder-free stability. The hip-fire changes feel like someone slowly turning down a firehose: the broad spray still exists, but it no longer hoses down entire rooms.

SMG adjustments, excluding the P90: overall accuracy, sustained-fire accuracy, and hip-fire accuracy were reduced by approximately 57%, 51.5%, and 28.5%, respectively. The MP5K also had its damage reduced from 34 to 32.

The MP5K had shown a noticeably higher usage rate. Its close-range TTK remains the same, but longer-distance TTK increases. Panzerfaust adjustments make it feel less like a shoulder-mounted afterthought and more like a lead anchor with a trigger:

  • Sprinting, jumping, and vaulting are unavailable while wielding it.

  • Players inside vehicles now take 20% less damage from a Panzerfaust hit.

  • Sight deployment sound is louder and audible from farther away.

  • Trunk weight increased from 100 to 130.

💥 Destructible Terrain and Gas Tanks Arrive on Miramar

Miramar now has Destructible Terrain, bringing it closer to Rondo, Sanhok, and Taego. Frag Grenades, Mortars, the Panzerfaust, C4, the Pickaxe, and vehicle explosions can destroy terrain. Rocky terrain is also destructible, and Destructible Gas Tanks have been added. This does not apply to Ranked or Custom Match - Esports Mode.

🏆 Ranked Season 38 and the Second Contender

Ranked Season 38 lowers minimum performance expectations slightly and adds permanent P90 ranked weapon skins as Tier Rewards. The leaderboard will reset after live server maintenance. Parachute skins, weapon skins, and Medals are permanent rewards; other rewards last for a single Ranked season.

The second Contender, Dorian, arrives with the Contender system receiving several updates. Contenders may have different body types from default characters, so some outfits and items may not be available for them. A new selection screen is available from the Workshop - Contender tab, and the previous main page has been revamped into the Contender Room. Hair colors, final-form selection, and random-equip behavior have also been improved.

🎟️ Pass System and Skibidi Toilet Arcade

The Pass system now supports up to three Passes running simultaneously. Each Pass has independent level and XP tracking, but gameplay progress applies to multiple Passes at once. A new Survivor Pass and an Event Pass themed around Skibidi Toilet are ready for this update.

The new Arcade mode brings Skibidi Toilet to Miramar. Players defeat hordes of Skibidi Toilets that have invaded the map.

📺 Observer Mode and Bug Fixes

Observer Mode received broad improvements for esports viewing. Players can now press Ctrl+F to search for a nickname and switch to that screen. The Killfeed stays on screen longer, throwable trajectory display time is shortened, and X-ray colors reflect each team's unique color. In Solo Mode, X-ray effects appear in black. New options include Switch to Killer Camera and Set Minimap Focus.

The patch also includes a long list of bug fixes: Miramar collision and texture issues, Karakin gunfire and Black Zone siren fixes, Sanhok loot truck damage issues, Taego Secret Room item displacement, and many outfit clipping corrections.

As a regular player, I am glad the game is sanding down the accidental edges that made vehicle skins feel like different animals. Update 38.1 is less about adding noise and more about giving every choice a fair heartbeat.
