Tactical Gear Overhaul: A 2026 Survivor's Humorous Retrospective
PUBG Update #23.2 transforms Tactical Gear with risky loadouts, slower healing, and chaotic tools that reshape every match.
It's 2026, and I'm still emotionally scarred from the PUBG Update #23.2 Tactical Gear overhaul. You remember that one, right? The one that dropped on PC from June 13 to 14, 2023, and on console a week later. I was there. I woke up at 5 AM PDT like a fool, ready to embrace the new meta. Little did I know I'd spend the next three years accidentally healing my teammates instead of myself and getting run over while trying to install a tire. But hey, at least the cable cars on Vikendi are faster now. Thanks, Krafton. 🙃

The Tactical Gear Carrier: Choose Your Poison (Wisely)
So here's the deal: now every match starts with a Tactical Gear Carrier in your inventory. You open it, pick one of six items, and it goes into a dedicated sixth slot. And you can't remove it. Ever. It's like getting a tattoo, but instead of a dragon, you get an EMT Gear that only heals your squad. I learned that the hard way when I tried to heal myself after a firefight and ended up staring at my teammate's health bar while I bled out. Good times.
The options are:
| Gear | What it does | My experience |
|---|---|---|
| EMT Gear | Heals teammates, revives faster? (No, actually slower now) | I became a mobile hospital. Nobody visited. |
| Tactical Pack | Extra storage for ammo and stuff | I carried 500 rounds of 5.56 and died with all of them. |
| Spotter Scope | 4x-8x zoom, auto-marks enemies | I marked a tree. The tree was not an enemy. |
| Drone | Flies around, spots enemies | I crashed it into a wall. Every time. |
| Blue Chip Detector | Detects enemies with blue chips | I detected my own doom. |
| Repair Kit | Fixes helmets, vests, vehicles, removes tires | I tried to remove a tire and got run over by a squad. |
And guess what? You can't drop it, and if you get recalled, you don't get a new one. So choose carefully. Or just pick the Repair Kit and become the team's mechanic. That's what I did. Now I spend my matches fixing UAZs instead of shooting people. It's a living.

Healing? More Like Heeling (Over and Dying)
Remember when Med Kits took 3 seconds? Those were the days. Now it's 7 seconds. Seven! That's an eternity in PUBG. I've died so many times mid-heal that I've started writing my will while the animation plays. First Aid Kits? 5 seconds. And reviving a teammate takes 8 seconds. I could make a sandwich in that time. Actually, I have. The only upside is that Energy Drinks and Painkillers now give a 50% additional effect. So I'm constantly hopped up on caffeine and painkillers, which is probably not healthy, but neither is getting shot in the face.
Also, the Tactical Pack now has only 2 attachment slots instead of 4. So I can't carry four 8x scopes anymore. Sad. But it feels like a Level 4 Backpack, which is cool, I guess. The Spotter Scope now zooms from 4x to 8x, and the red marker lasts 7 seconds. No more white passive marker. I used to spam that thing. Now I actually have to aim. The Blue Chip Detector got nerfed: screen updates every 8 seconds instead of 5, and the scan radius is 50m instead of 100m. And if you have a Jammer Pack, you're invisible to it. So my strategy of hiding in a corner with a Jammer Pack and a shotgun is now viable. Thanks, devs.
Map Rotations: A Comedy of Errors
Every week the maps change. I can never remember which week is which. Here's the schedule for the live server normal matches:
| Week | Maps | PC Dates | Console Dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Erangel, Miramar, Vikendi, Sanhok, Karakin | June 14-21 | June 22-29 |
| 2 | Erangel, Taego, Deston, Sanhok, Paramo | June 21-28 | June 29-July 6 |
| 3 | Same as Week 1 | June 28-July 5 | July 6-13 |
| 4 | Same as Week 2 | July 5-12 | July 13-20 |
I just drop in and hope for the best. Usually I end up on Miramar and get sniped from a mile away. Or I land on Karakin and fall through the map. Wait, that was a bug they fixed. But still.
Ranked got a shake-up too: Deston is out, Vikendi is in. The map pool is Erangel (30%), Miramar (30%), Taego (30%), Vikendi (10%). So basically, I play Vikendi 10% of the time, which is fine because I'm still not sure how the cable cars work. But they're 80% faster now, so at least I can get to my death quicker.

Vikendi: Now With More Blizzard and Less Loot
Vikendi got a bunch of changes. The Blizzard Zone lasts 70% longer, there are more snowstorms, and they're closer together. So if you like freezing to death while looting, this is your paradise. The Cable Cars are 80% faster, which is great because now I can fall off them at high speed. Lab Camps have lucky Supply Drops but worse items. Caves got nerfed: no more 8x Scopes, Critical Response Kits, or C4. And the Thermal 4x Scope is only a world spawn or in Care Packages now. I miss finding it in Secret Rooms and feeling like a god for five minutes.
The spawn rates for ARs, SMGs, and First Aid Kits went up slightly. SRs, LMGs, and Med Kits went down. So basically, more spraying, less sniping. I'm okay with that because my aim is terrible. Vehicles spawn more often, which is nice because I need to run people over to get kills.
New Player Experience: Skip the Bots, Get Rekt by Pros
In 2026, I still remember when new players had to complete AI Training Matches before playing Normal Matches. Now they can jump right in after Basic Training. That's great for them. They can get destroyed by a level 500 tryhard in their first match. Welcome to PUBG, kid. I'll be the guy hiding in a bush with a Repair Kit, not helping.
Final Thoughts: I'm Still Here, Still Dying
So yeah, that update from 2023 changed everything. Tactical Gear became essential, healing became a commitment, and Vikendi became a frozen hellscape with faster cable cars. And I'm still playing in 2026, still complaining, still loving it. Maybe one day I'll master the EMT Gear and become a valuable team member. Or maybe I'll just keep repairing tires and hoping for the best. Either way, I'll see you on the battlegrounds. Just don't expect me to revive you quickly. I'm busy drinking an Energy Drink. 🍹
